Tricked Out: John Deere 825i Gator

Chris Gaesser farms with his family near Corning, Iowa. His John Deere 825i Gator is a workhorse that gets him into places inaccessible by larger equipment.

“I can buzz through the fields without causing much compaction,” says Gaesser, “and the Gator makes it easier to scout throughout our fields.”

Cool factor:  Gaesser likes the option of putting on the doors to make the cab area more comfortable in the cold weather. He recommends the glass doors, which he likes much better than the optional soft cab. He also suggests using liquid filled tires to prevent cornstalk punctures. (Just make sure the liquid doesn’t freeze at temperatures below 32°F.) He also likes that this Gator is faster than earlier models, operating at speeds up to 45 mph.

The GPS-enabled Gator allows Gaesser to map field borders, flag tile blowouts and other tasks.

When Gaesser isn’t using the dump box to carry a spray tank he can also haul sand, dirt and branches.

The 60 gallon spray tank makes it possible to spray tight areas like fence rows and yards.
