Money
Left on the Table
“The good news is that prices are high. The bad news
is that prices are high.” Many farmers often find themselves
making the above conclusion when experiencing a period, like
today, of historically high commodity prices. Unfortunately,
it has become a tradition in agriculture that the accompaniment
to high commodity prices is high input costs. More money may
be coming in, but more money is also going out. Prices may
be high, but margins remain tight.

Soybean Rust Finds are Significant
for Future Crop Management, Research
Soybean rust was found for the first
time in Iowa soybean fields and for the second season in Illinois
this fall. Although the development of rust occurred too late
in the growing season to cause any real damage in 2007, it
is a significant discovery for soybean producers.
